We provide solutions and services that help our customers achieve their eco-efficiency goals during every phase of their buildings’ life cycles, from design and construction to maintenance and modernization.
We use healthy materials, help to reduce on-site energy consumption and the carbon footprint of buildings. We publish the environmental impact of KONE products and contribute to developing global energy management standards.
Considering the environment when installing new equipment. Our well planned and efficient installation processes minimize the adverse environmental impacts of installation work, and our systems ensure we reduce our chemical use and handle waste efficiently on site.
Using smart technologies and a green vehicle fleet to minimize emissions and maximize efficiency. Unnecessary technical callouts are reduced by remote monitoring solutions and by KONE 24/7 Connected Services, which uses the IBM Watson IoT platform and other advanced technologies to bring intelligent services to elevators and escalators. By carrying optimized spare part stocks in our vehicles we reduce warehouse visits, further decreasing emissions.
Applying a range of solutions to make the biggest difference with the lowest possible environmental impact. Our modernization solutions range from retrofitting LED lights to a completely new elevator with energy regeneration technology.
Our operational environmental work focuses on reducing our carbon footprint and improving energy and material efficiency, lowering our water consumption and the amount of waste, while minimizing our use of hazardous substances.
KONE has been measuring its operational carbon footprint since 2008, and our objective is to reduce our carbon footprint relative to net sales by 3% annually.
Logistics operations account for over 50% of KONE’s carbon footprint. We use distribution models that take eco-efficiency into account and pay special attention to reducing the impact of transportation through route and shipment optimization, as well as through careful analysis of alternative transportation models.
With a total size of almost 17,000 vehicles, our car fleet accounts for more than one third of KONE’s carbon footprint. We continuously search for new and innovative ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our vehicle fleet, for example by fuel efficiency, improving driving performance, piloting electric vehicles and alternative mobility solutions.
KONE operates in over 1,000 facilities globally, including office spaces and installation and service operation hubs. Our goal is to reduce the facility-related carbon footprint by 15% by 2022 compared to 2017 and increase the share of green electricity to a minimum of 50% of all electricity consumption by 2021.
At KONE, our contribution to a circular economy starts with our focus on reducing the materials, energy and other resources used in our solutions and operations. By providing customers with reliable and energy-efficient equipment that has a lifetime of over 25 years, KONE has an important role in keeping resources in valuable use for as long as possible.
